Wales lose 2-0 to Turkey in UEFA Nations League

Wales' hopes of reaching the UEFA Nations League finals were dented on Thursday as they lost 2-0 to Turkey in Istanbul.

Kieffer Moore had a great chance to put Wales ahead in the first half, but his header was saved by Ugurcan Cakir. Turkey took the lead just before half-time when Hakan Calhanoglu's free-kick found its way into the net. Wales struggled to create chances in the second half and Turkey doubled their lead in the 81st minute when Cengiz Under scored from close range.

The defeat leaves Wales third in Group A4, four points behind leaders Turkey. They will now need to beat Poland in their final match on Sunday to have any chance of reaching the finals.

Wales manager Rob Page said: "We're very disappointed with the result. We didn't play well enough and Turkey deserved to win. We need to improve a lot if we want to reach the finals."

Turkey manager Şenol Güneş said: "I'm very happy with the win. We played very well and created a lot of chances. We deserved to win and we're now in a good position to reach the finals."
